There are 5 basic rules you need to follow in order to learn how to design a logo that will grow with your company. Whether you are looking to get a logo designed, or are a beginner designer it’s important to create branding that lasts.

  1. Get a professional. Logos need to be made in a special vector format. Paying a designer the little bit up front will give you constant branding, better quality in print as well as online, and will help you avoid any problems in the future.
  2. Keep it Simple. I can’t stress how important it is to keep things simple. Think of successful companies: Nike, McDonalds, Telus… They are all simple.
  3. Artistic Size Matters. Does it look good when its 4 feet wide? How about 1 inch? These are important factors to consider when designing a logo, it needs to pass a scale test.
  4. Are your colours appropriate? If you are a physiotherapist, it definitely isn’t appropriate to have hot pink and purple for your logo colours, but it might be if you run a girls summer camp.
  5. Font Choice. First of all, anything standard (what comes on your computer already) is a no-go. Secondly, make sure your font fits! Choose a fun font if you are a fun company, or a professional font if you are a professional company. You can experiment and download some great fonts from fontsquirrel.com

Pretty Simple.
